Our History

Where We Started

Originally built in the early 1990s as a senior care home, Belmont Gardens was one of many businesses hit hard during the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021, the facility closed its doors and revamped its mission to address a pressing need in the Mississippi community— addiction.

Under the direction of Dan Edney, M.D., FACP, FASAM, Belmont Gardens shifted its focus from assisted living to treating drug and  alcohol addiction, as well as chronic pain with addiction. Edney’s interest in chronic pain and addiction, as well as the management of complications from chronic opioid use, led him to become ABS board certified in Addiction Medicine, and he has practiced in the field as a teacher and clinician since 2014.  He has served as addictionologist for both inpatient and outpatient addiction medicine programs across the state of Mississippi.

With a passion for addiction treatment and an available facility at the ready, Edney launched the new Belmont Gardens Recovery Center in May 2022. Today, the certified 54-bed recovery center is a dual-diagnosis facility that will accept private pay, Medicare, Medicaid, and traditional health insurance.
